So what is ''Showbusiness Success'' Anyhow?
I'm glad you asked....
In an industry which is very much built on dreams and, sadly, only too full of people ready to exploit those dreams, it is important that you check exactly what you are being promised before you pay for photographs, websites, training courses... or career advisors
So you are perfectly entitled and very wise to check out what I define as ''Showbusiness Success'' before you even consider getting me involved in your career.
Let's take them one at a time:
1. ''Showbusiness'' to me is any career in the very broad performance/theatrical/entertainment world. Acting, Juggling, Opera Singing, Comedy Writing, Hip Hop, if people will pay to watch it, it's showbusiness.
I'm certainly not an expert in every one of those performance fields-but in addition to using my own performance skills to make a living over the past two decades, I have had the privilege of working working with and interviewing a wide range of performers and industry professionals, including many big names in their respective fields.
If I have learned anything, it is that the talents involved in each field may be unique to each individual performer...but the principles of building a sustainable career are pretty constant be it in showbusiness or any other business.
Helping people identify and apply the principles which will set their performing career on a more successful foundation is my main concern. Which leads me to definition number two....
2. ''Success'' may well involve fame and fortune, but nobody can guarantee to offer you either of those things, and please be very wary of anyone who does.
I believe a more realistic definition of ''success'' is simply the feeling of being in control of the things that are inside your control and being able to do them more effectively.
It's also NOT feeling at the mercy of things you can't control be it your current financial situation, not being able to get an agent, not being happy with the agent you have already got, not enough parts for your type of performer...you'll have your own list.
I think that feeling that you are getting the best return from out all the time and effort you are putting into your business is useful in any career...but in an often lonely industry where many performers feel very much at the mercy of outside people, circumstances, or that elusive 'big break', it is particularly important to keep you going from day to day.
If I can help you achieve even a little more of that feeling either by helping you make an effective career plan, or helping you make the best decisions on your current career options, that's success for me, and I hope it will make success easier for you too.
